Ego or Surrender, which happens first! How are you going to surrender the ego, when it does not exist? Suppose you are sitting in a dark room. You want the darkness to disappear. But can you push it out? Can you fight darkness and force it to leave the room? No! No matter how long you keep trying, you are ultimately going to be defeated - and that too by something which does not exist! Ego is all about the illusory identity we build about ourselves, around ourselves, so that we can feel secure. A child has no ego. It is free to explore. As we grow, our education and conditioning helps us build this barrier around ourselves. It is an ‘unreal’, non existent barrier that separates us from our true Self. It is a barrier that keeps us in bondage. The ego is like darkness, it has no positive existence. Just like darkness is simply the absence of light, the ego is nothing but the absence of awareness. To struggle to kill the ego is like struggling to push the darkness out of the room. To really expel the darkness, what you need to do is to forget all about dealing with the darkness. Focus your energy on light instead. Just bring a small lamp into the room, and you will find that the darkness has fled on its own! So, I tell you to forget all about the ego. Instead, focus on bringing a lamp of awareness into your being. When your entire consciousness has become a flame, you will find that the ego is no more. The ego is an illusion. You cannot surrender it when you are unaware - because you don't know how. Of course, you cannot surrender it when you become aware either - because then you realize that there is nothing left to surrender! What you have heard, read, been taught - 'Surrender the ego in order to attain Self-realization' - this is unworkable. It can happen only the other way round. Self-realization dawns, and suddenly you cannot find the ego anymore. The surrender has already happened, just like that. I am glad if the question has arisen in your being. The ego is the root cause for all your anxieties, sorrows, and tensions. It is your doorway to hell. To actively feel that you want to drop the ego, to feel the need to be rid of this burden is itself a step towards awareness. It shows that you are stirring from your sleep! | mr. DJ. Rama,it is a matter of opinion, I think that when a person has no self esteem, he becomes a bad charcter, I think we all have to have a self esteem, that is what gives us value, your ego as you call it ,has a lot of facets like a diamond, it differs from one person to another, of course you cannot see your ego, like you cannot see your chracter, but it is there for you to controle it,you I think, must have a strong esteem of your self then and only then you will be a winner in life, but not surrender to it, I controle my ego although I cannot see it but I do it for the better in life. victor: |

After spending months wandering round the wilderness, the Israelites developed a blame-culture. They blamed their enemies, they blamed Moses, they blamed each other, they even blamed God! As a result of their blaming and complaining they got fully stuck in the wilderness. Blaming other people is a huge issue problem today. Nothing is our fault! It's always the government, teachers, family, friends, police, council or whoever's fault. Never us! We start feeling sorry for ourselves and from there it spirals into a full-blown pity-party where the world is against us and life is Oh-so terrible. The truth is, ninety-nine percent of the time the solution begins with a change of attitude in you! Sometimes things happen and we need to learn from them. Sometimes God lets things happen to teach us. So we can blame others, feel sorry for ourselves and be utterly miserable or we can take responsibility, understand that things don't always work the way we think they should and understand that people aren't perfect. Do you know one of those people who are miserable and think the world is against them and no one cares? The truth is those people are really hard to care for because they're so self-pitying! People will be far more concerned for you when you're positive and trying to make the best of things. So start taking responsibility! This is todays reading from the UCB word of the day. |

Greetings its good to rokker with you again..te aves baxtalo It's not about the darkness or the light.. For Darkness is the mother of light, from darkness all is born... It is about becoming awakened... Truly awakened... To be awake is not to live by a concept of our mind, created by our ego... To be truly awake is beyond any concept... Take the deapest breath you can and you will realize that our ego (our concept of life) is an illussion... We are more than we think we are, much much much more!!!!! when we die, what dies is our concept of ourselves and what others think of us, this dies, but not our true self... and in order to live in the light of our true self (before death) we must abandon all concepts & put all of our trust in the true source... believe me that you will achieve nothing, but more illusion if u continue to trust your ego and be proud of it.. Yes pride serves us because we are truly special, we are the children of God and we are beautiful and unique,WE are so amaizing!!! still false pride will cause war within us and the world around us, and as long as we hold on and trust our false ego we will bring hell to the earth... Our intellect will never reach the ultimate truth, it is only though revelation that will we become enlightened, You cannot reach heaven by your merit, it is the tower of Babel within us... see how much trouble, how much foolishness is caused when people trust that their concept of life is correct, they will fight for their concept, they will be so proud that they will be forever blind to the ultimate truth... because the ultimate truth cannot be explained by words or concepts of our mind... the only way to know the ultimate truth is to surrender sincerely to it... To dedicate your whole being to realizing and awakening to it... Not by being proud of our limited concepts and intellect... yea sure we may learn lessons in life and they may be significant to us, but even our most significant lesson is just like a leaf shaken in the breeze to the universe, our most heavy problem is as insignificant as a small breeze... yes everything depends on each movement in this web of life and all is that significant & insignificant... Everything is already spiritual but it is our awareness that makes it more to us.... Believe me that it is not easy to surrender to the ultimate truth, the ego will fight tooth and nail to protect itself but it cannot stand in the light of the truth, because it is false.... Just like when masters come to the earth, he/she is coming to awaken us, so that we may also be master, like yeshuah (jesus) people would rather kill him than to loose their ego, their precious concept that they have worked so hard their whole life to build, But I tell you now, you can continue to live in your illusion, I will not stop u, nor will any master, but if you seek the ultimate truth, you must be ready to surrender fully to be transformed and awakened from our slumber... If not then u will just live like 98% of the population, believing that they are free, while they are building and decorating their own cage... Until u truly seek the the ultimate truth u will not have any idea of what I am talking about... No amount of talking, reasoning or rokkering will ever get the message across because it is beyond anything that we can think with our mind, Untill we become a true master of the soul, we will do nothing but be another one of the blind leading the blind, we will do nothing but bring our conciousness into more illusion... Words will never be able to express the miracle that exists in every breath that we take..... So no disrespect to your concept of life, but I am only interested in living enlightenment and nothing more.... I have nothing to prove to u and u have nothing to prove to me... I am not interested in arguing each of our points of view, for I will be the first to admit that I am but a child in the face of the truth and I cannot help u realize anything, for how could one who is not liberated yet, help others to become liberated? it is not possible .. I am only interested in being aware and serving the ultimate truth that exists in every living thing, And you can discover what I am talking about if your just look at everything in front of u from the rocks, dirt, trees, animals, insects, stars, clouds, to our own conciousness.... I am only interested in serving God and his/her servants... To find our true self and God is our greatest purpose in life.... as long as we are helping each other to reach the ultimate truth we are the angels of God, but if we continue to entangle each other in our false concepts and illusions then we are nothing but demons.... And I know that we all would rather be angels.... Ja devlessa Ram |

Without actually reading this read fully~ sorry, LOL I have to say what a stunning painting. It really is beautiful. Who is the artist? Does anyone know? Getting the gist of what this thread is about I have to say as a student of the social sciences an ego is an important thing to have. Unless it gets to big (like my husbands, LOL). I see nothing wrong with confidence it's those who have lost their confidence that pity themselves. I think the most important is to find a balance with you ego rather then surrender it. Tisa x |
