Shelter
Housing problems? Shelter can help!
Shelter
is the housing and homelessness charity.
Shelter
believes everyone should have a home. We help people find and keep a home. We campaign for decent housing for all.
If you are having problems with your home,
Shelter
can help.
When can
Shelter
help me?
Shelter
can help if:
you have nowhere to live
you are finding it hard to pay your rent
you are living in bad conditions
you are going to be evicted
you are facing harassment or abuse
you are having trouble dealing with the council.
What can
Shelter
do to help me?
Shelter
can:
give you information and advice to help you solve your problem
talk to your landlord or the council on your behalf
represent you in court.
How can I get help from
Shelter
?
You can get help from
Shelter
in several ways.
Online
Shelter's
Advice online website has lots of practical information for Gypsies/Travellers in
Scotland,
including:
information about
council and privately-run sites
information about moving into
'bricks and mortar' housing
information about
benefits
what to do if you have
nowhere to live
what to do if someone is trying to
evict you
what to do if you're facing
discrimination or harassment.
By email
If you can't find what you're looking for on Advice online, you can get
advice by email.
Over the telephone
If you'd like to speak to a
Shelter
adviser on the phone, call
0808 800 4444.
Lines are open seven days a week from 8am to midnight. The helpline gets very busy at times, so you may need to try several times.
In person
Shelter
has housing aid centres and projects all over England and Scotland. They can advise you on more complicated problems, and help you to take action. Use Shelter's
Advice Services Directory
to find details of your nearest
Shelter
centre and other services in your area.
