The goal of my Radio show is to bring awareness to the general population about the Romani people's stuggle and also to create a greater repect for the Roma people by exposing to all people this music and message. Thereby encouraging equal rights, Justice and a generally favorable attitude to this beautiful culture. The Gypsy or Roma people as they like to called may have come from North West India a long time ago (or Kemit - Egypt, then India) and traveled through Pakistan and some made their way Southeast into the Holy lands and North Africa and into Spain. The others traveled North into the Balkan states, Russia and into Eastern Europe and then into the Americas. Through this long long Journey the Romani managed to maintain their traditions from India / Egypt and learned from the traditions of all the places that they traveled through. Everywhere they went they brought with them a treasury of Knowledge and Art, that only traveling could bring.
Yet all over the world the Gypsies have been and are being discriminated against. They have seen the most cruel treatment that anyone could endour, causing them to live in the most impoverished of conditions. One does not have to pity them, what one must ask is 'How can people be so Cruel?' Instead of using our time to try to understand each other, we waste our time away with breeding Cruelty! How can a people say that they love God when they don't love God's creation? There are many colorfull flowers in the Garden. What I have come to realize is that people are afraid of what they don't understand. But we have to be humble enough to say that this entire life that we live is a mystery, no one here can say that they know everything! So let us be strong in our hearts yet humble in our minds so that we may re-learn the secrets of the Universe.
Outsiders may look upon the Gypsies with mystery and wonder, because they are strange to you. But some turn the Mystery into fear and hatred, while others turn the wonder into fairy tales. But we must come to the realization that these are just people. People who want the best for themselves and their children, Without compromising or loosing what was given to them by their ancestors. The things that should not be lost, the things that are held sacred, the things that people should learn. One day the Romani people will be respected as major contributors to the real civilization of the Evolution of the Human being.
To all the non-Gypsies, I say for you to be open minded and give the Gypsies a chance, If you befriend a Gypsy , you may just have a friend for life.. To all the Romani, Be proud of where you come from and always fight for equal rights and Justice so that we may find Peace in this world. Opre Roma!
