In "Killimengro", it is claimed to be about the last gypsies to be killed in England, for being Gyspies, in 1650. This is not actually true, as there was still gypsies being made "examples of", two hundred years later!

In 1827, James Stanley, my Great grandfather x3, was jailed for Gry loring and given a sentence of two years. He was the baxtalo one, as the next mush was the one made an "example of", as he was sentenced to death by hanging!!!! The action of the judge, was as a warning to all other Gypsies, that they could expect to be treated in the same way!

This is all well documented, both in the court records of the day, also by the Rev James Crabb, who was present in the courtroom on that fatefull day. So moved was he at the injustice of it all, that he took it upon himself to look after the family of the condemmed man. James Crabb later became a benefactor of the Romanies of the Nevi Wesh, my own family included! In the book he wrote, he describes the fortunes, or should I say the misfortunes, of Stanley chavvies, which makes very sad reading indeed!

Oi Oi bang, It's true to say that under Edward, the son of Henry the eigth, it became a crime just to be a Gypsy, by the law of the land! My point is that, Romanies were still being mullered 200 years later! The law of the land had changed, but we were still dying at the hands of the authorities, or shall we say, the powers that be.

It was common for a local landowner, to claim that the Gypsies in the area had chored property from the estate, be it a bird or horse. This is exactly what happened to my family!

Even James Crabb refers to the Stanley Chavvies as trying the light a fire with wood they had "stolen", also, eating a half frozen turnip, which was "stolen". This man was a representitive of the church!

It was because the mush was a GYPSY, that he was made an example of to other GYPSIES. In my book, he was hanged, not for being a man stealing a horse, but for being a Gypsy stealing a horse. So, although the law had changed, the practise of killing Romanies because of who they were, had not! Cuz Tobias

My family would try to be as invisible as possible, when a yog was atched, very little smoke was ever produced, as smoke acts like a beacon. It was an offence to atch a yog within fifty feet of a highway, I think this still is the case? Today, my yog produces little smoke, not so much as I do not what to be detected, but because you cook on the ambers of a fire, not the flame!

My Stanley family were/are Horse Dealers, not so much Hawkers, so as not to bring too much attention to themselves, by knocking on the gorgi beans wuddur. This is one reason why I loath these mokardi roadside people, who stand out like a sore thumb and leave rubbish all over the place! when we passed through a place, you'd never know we'd been there. We were/are grey people.

I atched with the trailer, nearby a "traveller"site in Coldharbour in Dorset, last week. We lost ourselves in Wareham Forest. Mandi and the bitti chavvie walked alongside this site and come across, what was an open toilet in the wesh. There was jank and bul wipe all over the place! What mokardi people! They are all plumbed in there, so what is that all about???

I've nothing against having a jank al fresco, but not leaving it for others to ENJOY & ADMIRE! LOL. Why not do as I do and give it a decent burial, along with a little prayer.

Pral, the day is coming soon, when all that had gone before will come again. All the was held sacred and deemed as important to our people, will again be called upon.

When the gorgio has finished his oil fired, all consuming way of life, what will he have left?

The wheel of Nature!

Here the Rom reigns supreme. Here the kaulo mush is king! Opre o drom dik tute!

I have just read the old postings as I wasent a member then but the story about the Stanleys that Beshlie was writing about is recorded for history as they are in a book by James Crabb the Gypsies advocate all based on the Gypsies of the Nevi Wesh ,therev are quite a few books that cover many families from the wesh who married into most of the well known Romany familys from all over England and indeed the British Isles. Len Smith last year produced the book Nevi Wesh which covers all the different aspects of their lifes and what happened to the Forest Gypsies when they were forced off the compounds that they had been forced onto when thy were kicked out of the forest its a good book to get the feel of what their life was like and how they adapted at everything that as thrown at them .Also for more insight to the old folki books by Dominic Reeve who travelled with the Gypsies and lived amongst them ,and he writes it phonetically just as they spoke to him they are really great as you feel the ups and downs and its really funny at times as he includes all the cusses and swearing they did to one another ,really down to earth and spoken as it was no frills just plain truth of how it was well hopeyou dont mind me putting this on just thought some may be interested if not no probs LOL .
