| I have read your article about romani community. You have written in this article that romanis belongs to south asia specially north west of india. You said that they may be from punjab . To prove this statement you have taken the bases of language similarities between punjabi and romani language. You have given many examples to support this but in my opinion romani language is more close to the sindhi language because many romani words which you have given in your list sound similar with words of sindhi language but not with punjabi language. For example, Dand: tooth in sindhi we also called dand but in hindi it is dant. Similarly we call teeth danda which is similar to romani word danda. Another example is word kako we sindhi use kako for uncle. In romani chhin for cut, in sindhi chhin for cut also. There are many other words like, nak; nose,De: give, Ha: yes, jan: know, Jib: tongue. Kate: where.Bok: hunger, Rat:blood, sikha:teach. ker:do, duk:hurt. These words are also used in sindhi with similar meaning. Another example to support my opinion is that in romani language they use letter O or sound o in the end of musculine noun such as kako:uncle, kuro: horse, bakro:sheep which are similar to sindhi musculine noun such as kako uncle, ghoro:horse. These gramatical sounds are confine to sindhi language in our region. In punjabi and hindi letter A is used in the end of musculine noun like kura:horse, bakra: goat. I hope in the light of above fact you will be agree with me that romani language is close to sindhi language. |
