| Before I was born I'm told Roms would often tap dance.
It was common amongst Romani families to have to give a song or a dance when getting together. My Great grandparents would give a tap dance where as my grandfathers and all his brothers and sisters would give a song.
Does anyone else recall of this on their family?
Does anyone recall tap dancing? |

when we was kids, every wedding you go to thay would start singing, and shouting order give order lol..
we hated it and would run out the room!!
.
but i must be getting older cos i dont mind the singing now!! lol
.
its been years since i seen the tap dancing..at one time all the travellers thought they were jimmy cagny'..now they have got modern and think the are dean marten  lol

i think he was madonas old flame? ..he can move a bit thats for sure..hes somthing like me self when iv had a few lol!!
but hes not a patch on old digger lee from barnsly lol!! ;0)..
.
i tryd to find old james cagny tap dancing but i cant find him??

lol, I know he was Naomi Campbell. The band I believe are Spanish Gitanos though I'm not sure if he has gypsy blood. I read on a site that his kako was Cristóbal Reyes. Reyes I think is a big Gitanos family like Smith, Lee and Cooper are with Romanichal. I think the Gipsy Kings are partly made up of Reyes family members.
I know what you mean about having to see. That and clapping of hands to the songs. 
'Pull up' was another phrase like 'give order'.
I've had it before when someone has played guitar and asked me to assist vocally. I've always got out of these situations luckily. |

| xanadu aint ya got sick of carrying that site around yet? ...fools day is over....well maybe not for you lol ...so ya ended up in water after tap dancing did ya lol ....lot of the man i know ended up wet after tap dancing to ...when the wifes ding a bucket of water over them to sobber them up lol |

| Yes my dear Valerierackly I remember that our Gypsies lovara or kelderasha, used to tap dance, and were very good at it, we even gave shows, but usually a woman danced along side the man, but it was not compulsary to do that the man danced alone some times, and also the woman, today they dont dance like before the women just pick up the bottom of their long skirts, and wave them to the sound of the music, and the men rarely dance the real old style gipsy dance |

CJ; Unfortunately, my connection won't allow me to view You Tube stuff. Takes me for ever to down load it.
Nor can I lay claim to any personal experience of anyone 'Tap Dancing' in my presence.
However, I [i]do [/i] distinctly remember once seeing a documentary type programme regarding Peter Ingram, the vardo restorer. It showed him doing a spot of dancing. His company placed a bit of sheet iron, as I recall, better to amplify what, I suppose, would otherwise be lost in the earth ~ along with Peter's feet!
Thing that's always stayed with me is the similarity to the Irish form of dance. Back straight. Arms locked, vertically, down ones sides. All focus being seemingly on the foot work.
Just trying to highlight the similarity, really. Would ye believe, over here, we actually have 'Pro - Celebrity' contests televised? I've often sat there, in a pub, watching all this and thinking; " So; Was [i]That [/i] Good? If so; [i]Why? [/i]
Completely lost on me, I'm afraid.

Dear Xrosiex I am very glad to know that even today some one injoys our old style Gypsy dancing I also miss the dances that i used to know, you see I play accordian and many gypsy men and women danced under my sound of music.

| My dear Xrosiex, you said bore me, on the contrary I enjoyed every word you said to me yes you are perfectly right, we Gypsies are very different, from one country to the other, unless we are related, but once a Gypsy always a Gypsy, you said that you have heard from your parents a lot of ghost stories, if I amy give you an advice, why dont you write them down as I did and try and publish them, or if not, you wil leave someting behind, for your grand grand children to read, as i did I wrote books and many short stories to our Gypsy web sides, I donate these stories, ecept my books, you get a wonderful feeling knowing that some one some where reads your short stories ,or books, the is another web side the Romaniroots, I have a few short stories there, just go on Google and put this name romaniroots.ning, the on the forum you will find the name of my book,which is called {Memoriesof a Gypsy} click on it and you will find my new short stories, one by one, your friend always victor |
