I am descended from the Romani~Gypsies of Hampshire (mainly the New Forest, Southampton area). Would love to know more about the Romanies of Hampshire. I have links to Ayres (ancestral link), Cole (my grandmothers fam), Collins, Cooper (links on both sides) and Knight (my other grandmothers fam).

I never heard of the surname 'James' until a recent convo with my Nan on my heritage. She told me her Sister, Rosa married in to the 'James' family and they lived in a vardo in Southampton. Would love to know more about the 'James' family as I am not familliar with this surname?

Hi Derby Dealer,

Thanks for responding. My Nana's sister Rosa Cole Ferguson (she could of gone by name of Haimes as well!) married in to them. They lived in a vardo round Southampton area! I am seeing Daddy today so I can get some dates for you. I think we could be looking at 1930's plus.

Thanks again :)

Hi Derby Dealer, Sadly since this post my Grandmother passed away, but I have managed to get back in to contact with the James family from Sholing. Plus I was told about a photograph book that was published which featured my family. At least my Grandmother got to see the book before she passed away, which brought back wonderful memories for her. I am sad that she did not get to know that I was back in contact with her sister's children.

The family research has been a great success and I owe Journey Folk a lot of credit. I still would like to know more about my mother's family (The Knights) and I am currently reading an interesting book about the Gitano in the West indies, which is where my Grandmother's family came from.

Many thanks for all your help in finding family we had lost contact with!

I was informed that there are some Coles on this site. I am desended from Mary Ann Cole (My great grandmother) who married(?) a rye from the west Indies and she had a total of 16/17 children (Some step from my grandfather's first marriage). My Grandmother was also pregnant a total of 16/17 times, but went on to have 12 children, who at time of this post are all going strong (some have had 8/9 children themselves!). So as you can imagine I am from a very, VERY large family, that also includes Ayres (ancestral), Cooper, Haimes (Mary's first husband), James, Collins and Knight and I dare say I have few more famillies I have connections with.
