The 1861 Date comes from the Census of 1891 Southhampton, St Michaels, Hampshire, As Follows.
William Fuller, 34 Labourer, Born Sussex Battle
Elizabeth, (Nee Smith) 30 hawker, Born Sussex Lewes
Emily, 9 Born Lewes
Mark, 5 Born Shoreham
Annie, 4 Born Shoreham
William, 3 Born Shoreham
James, 8 Months Born Worthing.
Known to travel the Southeast of England, (Elizabeth it seems had a Previous Marriage to a (Surname Thorpe) know nothing of this conection).

| Found this in a request for help from "SFHG" Email Forum, This is only part of the request.
1851 - Plymouth, age 12, hawker living with a widowed Charlotte Burch
age 30 and others
1861 - Plymouth, King street, age 22, licensed hawker, living with
wife Catherine Westacott
1871 - Torquay, China mender, with Catherine and sons, Joseph, John,
Henry and Thomas
1881 - Ryde IOW, licensed hawker, with second wife Alice Dymond. Name
given as BIRCHON from now on
Son John Birch is in the Plashet Reform school East Ham -
name given as John Birchon
1891 - Alverstoke, Gosport, pedlar
Other information
1859 - He married Catherine Westacott in Plymouth, he was a tin plate
worker and gave his father as William, a brazier
1863 - He is a licensed hawker, living at Turks Row, Chelsea, an area
of poverty according to Booth's maps
1868 - Licensed hawker, Flora St Plymouth
1872 - Licensed hawer, Handcroft Rd Croydon. He is living with Alice
Dymond, who he has a daughter by although his wife Catherine and baby
son Thomas have TB and die in 1873 in Plymouth.
1874 - Portsmouth, he marries Alice dymond in a RC chapel, is a
licensed hawker and gives his father as Henry Birch (deceased tin
plate worker)
1879 - Edith Birch (my Great Nan) was born,
1880 - Alice and children in Portsea workhouse
1881 - Name given as Birchon ( the name my Great Nan and her sisters
continued to use until their marriages. All girls married well,
giving family to believe they originated in France. One girl even
married a Lord Renton giving her father Henry's occupation as a
stockbroker!

| Just seen that the letter above should have been from Romany Routes, Not SFHG as Stated, Working on Sussex then read my Email and thought it would interest Journey Flock and pasted the information down and sent it off and then realized what i had done, Whoops, Silly old !!!!. |
