ALIVEINFRANCE24, hello mush.I don,t think i can help you at the moment,i think we need to concentrait on some baptisms of the Parker family to determin family groups before the 1881 and 1871 census. Apart from the families on the censuses of Epsom,Surrey and your Mark and Alice, which i think you already have, then we need to look back a little further but i dont think the Parkers are on the 61 51 41 census, same as most travellers.I will be checking records we have as soon as i get chance and will keep you informed of any finds. My 2x Great Granny's brother, Andrew Smith died 1937,his wife Amy was a Parker, her dad was John Parker a traveller. They followed the fairs with their coconut shy. What a couple, what charactors, books have been written abount them.I hoped you asked about the Ayres side as i have lots on the family of your Alice . All the best, K

Cuba and kirby, thanks for your messages.I am aware of the Romanygenes site, shes done it well with all the colours red and green. My Great Granny's baptism is on there,Mary Ann Ayres daughter of Samuel and Phoebe, Hawkers,West End ,Aldershot.(1880s).I know Sue Day from that site, met her a few times. It was through me that Jack Loveland's photos first got to their Knowledge. It was me who put the RTFHS onto Jack and then Romany Roots used his work then Sue broke away from that and set up her Romygenes. Both Genes and Romany Road sites are very good and informative.I recognise a lot of the traveller baptisms and stuff on Genes from our research from over the past 15 years, but she has worked hard to sourse and find huge amounts of material. My wifes Granny was a daughter of James Green and Louisa Simith, and was baptised in Lyndhurst church in the 1880s,the entry says "Travelling through the forest".The Stanley family of my Uncle Bill's ,and my Stanley ancestors, are said to have come from the New Forest many years ago.I have heard that my Ayres/Eyres/Hares came from the forest also, this must have been over two hundred years ago. There are some Smith's that were in the forest but there is little evidence to be found about them. All best wishes,K

Cuba, Yes, the RTFHS is holding the October open day event at Selborne, but it's my baby.I suggested the venue and have organised events there,i wanted to pay for it all but the committee wanted to do that. I was the first member to be elected onto the RTFHS committee at their very first AGM, and then the first to stand down due to a busy works schedual.I believe the Rtfhs first used Jack Lovelands photos at a society day display, they thanked me for putting them onto Jack.If the others are using Mr Loveland's photos then they must have contacted him after they set their own sites up.All of us were Romany and Traveller Society members. You have got me thinking now,i will e-mail them all to get to the bottom of it.Any way i understand that Jack just wanted a place where his photos could be appreciated, and they are all very interesting.Speak to you soon,Kerry

Ares and Stanleys were in the New Forest as well as Smiths, Knights, Coopers, Coles and Collins, Ferguson, some Lees and James famillies. Most of the Stanley desendents from New Forest now live in Pompey.

RomaniTisa, Hello to you.I know some of the Coopers and Coles,Lees,James and Smiths from families that once travelled the New Forest.I havn't met any of the Knights ,Collins or Furgusons from around there yet.My late Uncle Bill Stanley's father was Charles son of William Stanley.Charles married louisa Rose, daughter of Eli.I remember my uncle Bill telling me that his Grandmother Stanley was the daughter of the lord mayor of Portsmouth. The family of Charles and Louie were based near Reading,Mole Road.My uncle Bill had brothers Charlie,Libby and Henry, and sisters Clara and Louie. On some of their baptisms Charles gave his abode as a "traveller from Gosport".There are a lot of Stanleys in and around Portsmouth and they are all related as it's a very big old travelling family, they all have a Charlie or a Liberty in the family, but my Uncle Bill stayed around the Reading area where he made his money in the scap metal trade, owning his own scrap yard with a smelting device. He also told me he thought the family came from the Forest originally.I have some old newspaper reports from America that i showed my uncle once abount a William Stanley the king of the New York Gypsies, and there is a Stanley Gypsy family vault that was mentioned in the USA press. Cheers,Kerry

No probs we all enjoyed the day and I only wish we could of stayed longer. I know my Dad could of rokkered to you all day, bless him. I'll ask my Nan about those names. I'd love to hear the stories you have of my fam. I take it you must of heard of a Sonny James? I think that is how his name is spelt. I heard stories from My Nan that Rose and her husband Jimmi James back 40s/50s lived in a propar old vardo down in Bittern, Southampton.

I would like to find out if the Sarah Ayres you mention, that married Cooper, could be one of "mine",she's in the right place and time to fit my Gypsy Ayres tree No1. I look forward to calling on ya some day,but whats all this i read on here about pet snakes and spiders etc, dordi Tisa, keep dey critters locked well up,lol lol. You call Kathleen a rawnie and i was called a true Romany Rhye on Saturday, you know thats what we call a lady and a gentleman, all the other needies calls us Tipsy and Shady, they must have been some old colourfull Gypsy couple from years ago!!!!!lol,i dread to think, but always wondered who they actually were?.You would have loved chris Penfold and her sister Mary, real old fashioned genuine Romany folki, maybe next time though!. Well all the best, again it was kushti to meet yourself and husband and little gal and Mum and Dad,Thanks for coming Tisa, folki like you made the day such a brilliant success, cheers, kom ta bok, Kerry
