some times when i look aroud I think many people are ashamed to be called gypsys.
why would you hide and pretend you wheren't a romani.
I was looking at a web-site about trailers and it just goes to show how ashamed travellers have become of being seen.
when trailers got going in the 60's the old vickers trailers where the cushti-est think on wheels. I had a look at the trailers as time went on, and up till about the late 80's may be early nineties, travellers where a very proud folki of there gypsy heratage. the trailers where beutiful, they had the best moters and showed them to any-one. They had a style of there own, and wheren't ashamed to show it. You'd never be given a old cheap mug when you visited a traveller back then, you'd be treat like a V.I.P from the minute you drove on the camp. And when you sat down you'd be in the lap of luxury, on beutiful leather couches with big lacey cushions, and axminster carpets deeply under foot.
How times have changed even you on here are saying you wouldn't advertise the fact that your romani, and are a relitive of gypsy's.
Just like a traveller trailer is now just a tourer. with not really any distinguishing features. Ladged to stand out in the crowd. Any wonder people treat us with no rights and like we are to be a shamed, if thats what they see us doing how can they show usbetter respect, We dontseem to have any for ourselves.

May the peace of the LORD be with you always. God Bless

i remember when you went to Applebey thered be crome trailers from one end to the other. They'd have there doors open so everyone who went past could see into the best trailer on the fair. Every-bodys was the best on the fair. It wouldn't just be the trailers either it would be every-thing in them as well. There'd never be a thing out of place and thered be all kinds af china and crystal, gypsy people use to shine and gleam from there trailer doors to the dish they washed there selves in.Appleby is the dirtiest place in the world. When its dry the dust chokes you and when its wet you get it every-where, but the trailers made the place gleam when they where on it.lol.if we could get a picture and i know there is loads they would be good to put on here.

May the peace of the LORD be with you always. God Bless

Even a Vardo stoves not as good a trailer stove. you can make the bed in a trailer and sit warming your feet off the end of the bed. you can't do that in a wagon. I've tried. And when you woke up in the morning the smell of sticks lighting, aww its cushti. lol. I remember the smell and the sound of the wood lighting like it was this morning. And the smell of cinders.lol. coal was cushti as well but it we wasnt alloew to use it as it melted the formica off when you filled the stove with it.lol. my dad would go divvi and threaten to kill us.lol.

Sorry to jump on in folki, how about winniebagos? Really big ones with all the extras & luxuries that money can buy, funded by lottery grants to ensure that our culture never dies! Yeah, wouldn't that be great? Take care, the nomad

i am as proud of my romany background as anyone else on here and i am not abit ashamed of my roots but if im given a choice as to weather i want to stand out and get mocked or live my life in peace then i chose peace any day .where i live it is not romany friendly ...i lived here for over 30 years and the only thing my neighber as ever said to me was to shout out of his window at me as iwas pegging washing out rag bone and laughingly snigger.
and when ever ther is any romany in the erea they say lock things away.................. i have often gone back to the stopping places to keep my memories fresh and to show my children where i stopped and the storries that came with the places and when my grandchildren are of a age to undestand i will take them and so on .....god willing

Oh wow... so you can fly!  Geez don bread maaaan, cricket was sooooo much fun, but it only lasted till about 1:00pm so everyone was really disappointed about that.  The atmosphere was amazing and Kensington Oval looks incredible... we were doing lots of "waves" and my sis and I had rainbow coloured flower lays (don't know how to spell that) round our necks and bright green pompoms for whenever someone got a 4 or outed an Aussie.  Lots of times I didn't understand what was going on, no worries, we didn't care.   There were loads of Irish fans by where we were in Leprechan hats and beards and the Aussie players were in their little box right next to us so they knew who we were supporting for sure.

Dear Valerie, it is good to hear from you, you have been epsent for some time, Valerie if you could only know how I wish I would be there with you and your clan, to enjoy the lovelyness of the country side, do you know that I have never in my life have  been on  Vardo, it must be terrific, at my age I need the country side so much,  although my son has a small farm , but it is nothing compared to the U.K.  country side, who knows I might visit U.K. in September, in Manchester because there will be a big gathering of Gypsy/Roma there, if i will go then I might also visit the Gypsy, travalers, your friend
