My daughter had abit of a dicky tummy this morning I have managed to settled it with peppermint and she is thankfully smiling and talking about chocolate now, LOL! However, when I was holding her hair back from her face when she was unwell I saw a black spec thinking it was fluff I went to get it and it moved  I managed to get the intruder and can't seem to find any eggs as yet, but I was just wondering whats the best treatment to use? I hate the thought of having to put chemicals on my 2 year olds head :( does anyone have any alternative advice for us? and NO I am not shaving her head, LOL. |

| good evening. I would't worry too much they are easy to get rid of, just put in conditioner (nomal stuff you use everyday) and comb through till all or any of the nits have been removed. I us a piece's of white tissue to wipe the come onto every-time you comb through. Then after i have washed out the conditioner I use a repelent which is tea-tree and lavender spray, you can buy it from the supermarket, but i bet you can make your own if you wanted to .if you put afew drops of the essential oil lavender and tea-tree and mix it into a bit of conditioner or put them in the rinsing water it would be just as effective. |

| Unwelcome little visitors, you can use neat vinegar, house will smell like a fish and chip shop, but it does work, soak hair and leave to dry, wash in the morning, the little critters can come immune to the head lice lotions, they only live in clean hair, good luck, Lyz |

Thanks everyone!!!
I had my hubbie cut most of my lovely waist long hair off in order to treat me (just in case) :o(
Going go to the hairdressers soon to get it restyled. It's still long(ish) down to shoulders. Anyway tree-tea worked a treat and made my scalp feel great! Thanks for the tip Vale :o) plus I did try the vinegar as well Lyz and it brought my hair up in a lovely shine! Even better then the £17.50 conditioner I used to use! |

I'm glad you got it sorted. I used to be feared to death of the silly little things, i thought i'd have to have my hair all cut off too. it's real hard though when you have little children as you cann't check you own all the time properly. You live in fear of having nits and not knowing you have them.lol. I have three children but they dont seem to get them any more, they used to get them from school, not all of them get nits though. my eldest doesn't get them and when i was little i never got them either. it must be the smell of you. I dont mean you smell, i mean the scent of people.we havea different smell to each other. my middle daughter she smells different to my eldest and she had oilier skin when she was little, and nearly ever day i'd bring her home from nursery and i'd be able to see them in the middle of her parting. I'd be there picking them out every day.lol. I had to check her hair every day.I spent a long time getting them out.lol. You learn to be patient and to be vigilant all the time. Aww, why did you cut your hair off. You didn't need to do that. £17.50 for conditioner are you mad.lol. you must be very rich:P.you know i only meant that you should use like pantene or something, its just as good. I used to use the cheapest on my childrens hair as it's usually very mild and it doesn't build up as much in there hair. vineger on my hair its great for dandruff, and its a good conditioner as well. Its meant to be good for your skin as well, in your bath like. Did you have a go at making the tea tree stuff? did it turn out alright? I've been telled that if i put rosemary in hot water and use that as the last rinse its meant to be really good for your hair. I've not tried it as my rosemary in my garden won't grow any more. i must need to re-plant or re-grow it. Hope your well. see you later. valerie. |

| you all are sooo funny (laughing with you and not at you) £17.50 for conditions just as to attract and not rid the lille chats, cos it just maybe that the nits are posh nits any cheaper conditioner may cause them to feel insulted and leave hehehe |

Yeah I know £17.50 was crazy, but it did smell lovely and left my hair with an amazing shine ~ but then I recently discovered so does a bottle of vingar, LOL. Thanks for the advice Valerie tea tree oil has kept the nits away!
Hi Bertram, LOL actually when my hubbie found out our little bundle of love had nits he shave his head then said who's next, lol. I just had about a foot of head removed! Some people have inches I had a foot, LOL. I could of sold it as a wing it still would of looked long. My hair is around my shoulders now instead of past my wasit! |

mokodi juvers,keanisher bal,
in the old days , back the late sixtys early seventys lots of children wouled get them, i dont know why or where they came from, but they put something on your hair like concrete, and any one wouled be shamed and wear a wooly hat, in all the schools then they had a nit nurse, every child in every class had to line up and see her about every few months, it was a great shame to be known to have nits and a person wouled never go to school why he had the concrete hair, they said they only go in clean hair but i think that was to make people feel better but a great shame,
ps i never had them not once, ................................................

| well when i was in borstal,my friend told me. i have crabs [not the ones from the beach ] i said oh no problem getting rid of them . get some corse sand, get some whiskey , mix them together. now rub this mix into the crab [and nits area ] what will happen is you will only have to kill one, from the grand total,of the beggining number - as they all got pissed and through bolders at each other --- last nit/crab standing is your only problem . |

| :)Hi, ive only just seen your plea for help and assume that youve sorted it now but i thought id reply anyway because my remedy really does work and beleive me as someone that has three girls all within a couple of years of each other, and all going to school, i NEED sommit that works! My girls have all got long hair and its a nightmare! Since regularly using my remedy weve had NO headlice at all. QUASSIA bark chips...these are available from health/wholefoods shops in bags normally. It is literally bark, from the quinine tree (extract of which is in indian tonic water) it is so potently sour and bitter that only a small amount is necessary for a big effect. I take a large handful of the bark chips and put in a measuring jug, then pour on boiling water. I then cover it with a deep bottomed cereal bowl which pushes the chips down into the water cos they tend to all float to the surface. I then leave them to steep overnight. In the morning i pour the now yellow liquid, into a squirty bottle (of any type - u can buy them new but i just wash out an old iron spray bottle or something similar). Then after washing the girls hair i spray it all over and comb it through, then leave it in - it make a good leave in conditioner too and smells quite nice. If they are infested then i treat every night after school and obviously comb thru with a nit comb and remove any adults or eggs i can find, wiping the comb (like valerierackly suggested) onto some wet tissue. You see it doesnt kill the juves it simply makes the chavvies hair and scalp taste so revoltingly bitter that they dont bother coming back and stay on the other kids heads!:P |
