Hi all I've just been looking up the Rajput clan 'Paramara'. Apparently Paramaras pay visit once a year to invoke the blessings of their "Kul Devi", the goddess Saraswati. Saraswati is the ancient Indian goddess of learning and wisdom. "SARA"-swati I thought that sounds familiar. I have often heard of Saint Sara being connected with Kali. I looked on Wikipedia to see what they have said and it says that she is mention as a mighty river with creative, purifying, and nourishing properties. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saraswati I'm sure I've heard it mentioned and discussed by people on this site so I thought I'd share this. It could have been a different site but if it was someone on here then Sara and river and then thinking of the Catholic saint of the Roms 'Saint SARA' who they carry statues of down to the river. All the best Cj :) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Sarah http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali |

Hi Victor,
I've got to confess I'm no expert on these matters. I do not really understand who or which branches of Christianity do what and who follows saints etc. The same is with pilgrimage sites as that is another thing I have heard about but have never really known what its all about. In my neglegance I tend to have always assumed this was all Catholicism or maybe Eastern Orthodox. The only real Christianity I've ever had properly explained to me is the Romani pentacostal movement.
I think I just assumed it was normal Catholicism because it is mostly famous amongst Cale of France and Spain and I assumed they would Catholics because of the influence of the people they live amongst.
Sorry
I think you may be right that the Roms invented her or adapted her as their own. I'm not too familiar with the festival though I have seen much documentation and photos on it.
All the best Cj |

| My dear C.J. when I was in France, Paris to be exect, there was only one Family, out about 20 families that I have seen, were Catholic, the rest were all divided, although we have a Roma/ Gipsy Church, but who handled the Church was from the states, some said that he was of the famouse Billy Graham Church, and paid 200 dollars for every new babtized person, now this what I write you I am not sure, this could have been a lie but the American Pastor I saw him myself, so you see, there is a catch to all this, if you will read my book there is a few pages didcated to this subject your friend Victor. |
