I thought I'd share the testimony of the movement of "Born-again-Christianity" that is happening amongst Roms and other travellers alike across the globe....

There are many movements that have started up independendly with their own experiences and testimonies but from my understanding the main event started in Southern France over 15 years ago.

I'll have to get correct names and dates etc but as my memory serves me of hearing the testimony from other Roms, There was a Romani site in Southern France where a young boy had lukemia and meningitus and had been in hospital and had checks and the doctors said that basically there was nothing they could do and he was going to die.

The mother I'm told saw a sign saying 'Jesus Saves' and in desperation went into the church and asked for prayer. The Preacher I'm told had already recieved a word from God (in prayer) that he was going to be working amongst a foriegn people yet he would never have guessed that it meant he Rom. The preacher who was part of the AOG (Assemblies of God) penticostal movement went and prayed for the boy and the boy was miraculously healed. As a result of this the whole Romani site repented of their unHoly lifestyles and took to following the Cross in an honest change. The little church I'm told became packed out with Romani people which then created another problem. Often in Christianity there are many that claim to be Christians but in real they walk a life far from the teachings of Christ Jesus and usually that a busy bodies that try and get themselves up in the ranks of the Church. These so called good christians started to protest against the (True Christ like) preacher from bringing Roms into the church and it was looking as if they were going to get their way.
As a response the preacher called all the Roms together for a prayer meeting. As they were prayer for help and guidance all the Roms began talking in tongues. I'm not sure the exact rule but as the church being owned and under the AOG pentecostal movement there is a rule that has something to do with taliking in tongues and the 'self-called-christian' attenders were not able to dismiss the Spirit filled Roms from leaving the church.

From here the Romani movement grew and French Roms spread to other countries spreading their news and new lifestyle under Christ's influences. Many ex-criminal and harsh or bitter Roms are changing their ways, families are putting aside age old disputes or being reunited and good is coming out of the movement. AOG supports the Romani movement through prayer ect.

It is through this movement that I have been preached to and have heard the gospel (plus from Chrsitian Gaje that were coming into my life from a different angle which is all coincidental).

All the best

hi cj, I went to a meeting in darlington, and a woman who was an elder of somekind was saying that Davie jones and nora had converted in the early eighties 81-82 ish and i think they had a lot to do with the travellers and gypsies that i know of becoming christian. I also know they did have meetings with the french as my uncle (the leg) also became a christian not long after, and went on mission with davie and nora, i remember my uncle coming to ours at christmas once in about 1983 so i know they was started bye then. My uncle the leg, when i saw him at my cousins wake and funneral was also telling me he has good friends in the french christian church who he had been friends with for a long time.
I think since the travellers have become christian it has changed a lot of the ways and things we do now a'days. We all seem much mre aware of what God wants of us and we are more aware of God being in a living relationship with us,were as before reigion was just something you did,(you baptisted your children to ensure there cleanliness, as they where said to be born under the curse of the devil) and you was either catholic or prodestant, nether realy having much law or order over our lives.
My family have had a longstanding relationship with a priest who had been involved with my dads family since he ordained when my dad and his sisters and brothers where young, he was a nice man but he didnt seem to have the relationship with God as we see and hear of pastors and evangelists having.
I think i've gone off on one there sorry cj.lol. I only pray that with the future generations that more of the travellers are saved. And that christianity doesnt just be somethink that blends into our cultures background and becomes just what we do as was done with catholisism and prodestance.
God bless brother.
valerie.
was it a good word in church where you went today?

May the peace of the LORD be with you always. God Bless

dear Valerie. when you say that all the Roma have changed to Pentacost or what ever, you are very wrong, you should have said some Roma have changed, are you by any chance making propaganda for Pentacosta?I think that on the Journey Folki, is not allowed to make propagand,as I said before, there is only one God, no matter who preaches Him, that is why I say no religion is better then the other, where ever the name of our Lord is pronounsed, Victor

I am sorry victor but i think you have miss-read what I wrote. I was talking of the travellers that I had met and that I know of. Not all of the travellers every-where.
And i am not really bothered what religion a person is, i just think that if they are more following what their holy book The bible says instead of what man has taught them through the restraints of religion then that can only be for the better. It must be better surely if a person who is practicing from the holy bible to be christ like, and not condeming yourself with useless rules and regulations that religions bring with them.

May the peace of the LORD be with you always. God Bless

the things i write about my faith are not from mans teaching or a pentacostal teacher, my knowledge of God and Jesus come from me reading and studying the bible myself. Yes of course I now have a pastor at my church that i go to but that is a think in obiedience to God word where it says we should have fellowship with other beleivers and for us to help each other in practicing what we believe and in learning how we can apply our faith in todays life.
I have an assurance you see, that God says through his bible teaching prayer and the holy spirit that through the belief and following the ways of Jesus christ, I, through Grace and not my own doing have an inheritance of eternal life. And there is no price for me to pay other than that I believe in what the bible teaches me.

This is not me trying to advercate pentecost, thats just what the bible says. And thats what I believe. theres no real reason that I do , I just have the faith. If any one doesnt then it is not my place to get you to believe, there is one(God) who knows the inner side of you and knows your mind body and sole much better than I could ever. Dear Valerie, now you are talking my language,it is cetainly not my business in what Church you belong to, it is your life and you do with it as you wish , but pointing out just one Church, I find it not right, traveler or no, if they believe in God that is what's importend, God is everywhere, and usually God helps those who help themselfs, we don't really need, a second party to tell us how to read a Bible,or do we! Hi Valerie.

that sounds about right. I met Davie Jones a few years back. I was talking to him about the Vlax Romani jib and he gave me a cd on it. At that time I heard him give his testimony. It was in the Darlington area that Davie was converted.
The French Roms had tried witnessing to the British Roms but were meeting much resistence. The English Roms were so wrapped up in greed and money (or something like that). The French Roms were close to giving up on the UK but one man I think his name was Michelle (pronounced like the English girls name) wanted to carry on and just asked for the support of the others in prayer. They started praying for a couple to accept Jesus that would take the message of Jesus to the British Roms.
Michelle and I think a friend or group of friends got in his car and drove through the UK. I not sure of his plan or where they was going but if my memory serves me they broke down in the Darlington area. Michelle went and knocked on a nearby house (may have been a church or vicarage) for some help (I assume to ask to use the telephone) and upon introducing himself the unexpecting occupiers said "ah great!! We've been trying to witness to a nearby traveller camp but they've been having no joy perhaps you can help?". Surprised at the welcome, the French Roms stayed. One of the families of this nearby traveller site was a very much un-Christian Davie and Nora Jones.
Strange coincidencies weren't to stop here. According to Davie, he says that so many weeks before this he was in Ireland and was in a book shop where he noticed a Bible. I can't remember why he wanted it whether it was the look of it or what but I remember him saying he was going to chor it but upon doing so felt a guilt and for the first time in his life actually bought a book. In the few weeks leading up to the about to happen encounter he had actually been trying to read this little book.
I can't remember all the details from here but I remember Davies conversion wasn't and easy one and I remember that when he gave his life to Jesus, his wife was none too pleased and she took a little longer.
I also remember Davie saying something that when Davies conversion took place he and Michelle shook hands and a white dove flew passed (If you ever see Davie or Nora then make a point of asking about this).
It was then through Davie and Nora that the UK went through it revival of Born-again penticostal Christianity. I also know and have meat of a few occassions and have sometimes written to Sonnie & Rosemary Gibbard who is president of the Gypsy Council and also the Grandson of the famous Gypsy pastor Rodney Smith. His conversion was completely independent of the French Romani conversion but his was whilst in prison serving a sentence for a murder he didn't commit.

Are you going to post some more shooshoo. go on, you could put some thngs in about your family. how did they become christian,A bit of history etc. you see i think we have to tell people. they seem to think we are all ill bred scroungers who know nothing who go from town to town making and causing trouble where-ever wego. And they seem to think if you put in any-think that our people have had any positive things to do with being a citizen of this country then we must be making it up.
But where I would like to know has the history of our people going and helping farmers with there crops so the settled folks can eat gone and the women and men selling thing these people needed like lino and pegs, buttons and lace. you know what I mean. Even the ones who gone out telling fortuns, even thoug as christians we dont do it or believe in it , it did give hope to people(gorga people)and then theres the horse dealers and sign painters. My granny's grandad used to do thatched roofs, Who would like to be able to do that now. then there are the farriers and shoemenders, grinders and handymen who would come and fix or mend for you. I now my family done them things, did yours too. Even our old people who do scrap and the ones years ago who took away the rags. They was all gypsies in thecommunities all over the country who no-one seems to remember. People think we are scum and have not and have never had any part in the british community. People here have short memories the people from other places dont know or think we are keeping ourselves out of civilization to be aukward.
Look at what Victor thinks. Hes on some international board to represent romani's but he only knows of the ones he has lived and dealt with which is ok, but there are people(rom) who live differently but victor and others dont know anything about us.
did you have relitives who where in the war.
did you cj, I bet you did.
What the man Victor says about being christian sounds very familiur doesnt it.
we have seen this in our own people at one time or another. My granny used to say
"watdo you mean you give your heart to God, lol. what did you do cut it out".
she would be very resistant to christianity too. she thought we was going to get robbed or brainwashed, She's got used to it now. she'll even talk about being christian and of us going to church, she asks us questions too. God bless her.
see yous later. I hope you's will put some more in, its time we stopped letting people think we're nothing.

May the peace of the LORD be with you always. God Bless

HI ALL.
REGARDS THE JOBS OUR PEOPLE USED TO DO, WELL OUR CREW (KILBYS) USED TO MAKE STRAW HATS.
ALL THE FAMILY WORKED AT IT. THE YOUNG ONES USED TO CUT AN SIZE THE STRAW. THE OLDER GIRLS USED TO PLAIT THE STRAW. THE MOTHER SEWED THE HATS AND THE FATHER BLOCKED EM.

THIS WAS DOWN IN BEDFORDSHIRE WHERE THEY WERE BASED. THEY HAWKED THE HATS UP COUNTRY FOLLOWING THE SAME ROUTES EACH YEAR AN SELLING THE HATS AT THE VARIOUS FAIRS. THEY GOT UP AS FAR AS KEIGHLEY IN WEST YORKSHIRE WHERE THEY USED TO WINTER ALONGSIDE MARSHALS FAIRGROUND IN A PLACE CALLED THE HOLLOWS IN WORTH VILLAGE NEAR KEIGHLEY WEST YORKS. THATS WHERE ME GRANNY (ALICE MAUD KILBY ) SETTLED WWHEN SHE MARRIED ME GRANDA (HUGH WILSHER REECE).
SHE MET HIM WHEN SHE WAS SELLIN FLOWERS DOWN IN COVENTRY.

ARE THERE ANY KILBYS STILL ON THE ROAD OUT THERE. THEY WERE BASED DOWN IN LANGFORD---BIGGLESWADE AREA. ANY INFO WOULD BE MUCH APPRESIATED. ALL THE BEST TO YE ALL. KILBY.

God bless you sister. its hard when people who are close to us and who we love pass away, But thank god for Jesus, that we have a faith that we can trust gods disisions on why and how we leave this old place called earth. God knows its hard and is painful for us. But you know the ones who have passed are free from all this anguish we go through, And they are in a much better place than we are.I know cause my mam died when i was twelve and this year alone four people who was close have gone. One being my poor old grandad. And the boy called johnny i dont know if i knew him but i could have. Its good that your dads a pastor isnt it. i wish my dad would give in and be saved. But its all in God plan and i supose if we all just became christian over night we would have no need for heaven would we. my cousin telled me she'd been with the mission taking things to the romanian children, she said its so hard but you get a feeling of blessing for doing it. I got blessed with her just telling me about it.
I think it would be good if more of the travellers got saved dont you?
I think its changed the lives of so many of our people both men and women that we'd be foolish to ignore that Jesus really changes peoples lives.
God bless you my sister and I hope you post more on here.
A lot of people read these and I know a lot of people who know of the site who just look in from time to time. Some people dont like us travellers form here putting things about us on but if we dont then who's going to tell these people the truth about our people.

May the peace of the LORD be with you always. God Bless

All the time i pray and ask for God to save and Bless the traveller people, for him to let them know they can be children of God. Here in Ireland the Catholic religion is still the most dominant and prominent one among Travellers. Some, however, have become Born Again and have their own meeting where the majority are Travellers in various places around the country, mostly though in the Dublin area.

My dear Valerierackly, now that you have mentioned my name in your post I have to answer you, you say that I am involved in some institution, that helps Gypsies, well my dear yes I am involved! but not as you say that the gypsies I only know, I wonder who told you such I big lie, I am an activist, and i fight for our cause every where in this world of ours, where ever it might be including England etc, etc, I would have not done this at my age, but I do because I want to help my people in distress, and I do it diplomaticaly by writing letters to the good institutions, like the human rights the world comunity etc,and ask them to organize help like food chothing medicine etc, for our people in the Ghettos in EU. I also believe in God, it would have been a sin if I would help only the people I know, and besides the Gypsies I know most of them are well to do In Brazil, but those who are not we have institution non Gypsies who looks after their needs, I say as Shahnee says I believe and respect all religions, there is no special religion for me they are by the thousands today, so I just believe in our God almighty,I believe he sees everyting, and is every where, He is right besides me now while I write you this post Victor

that sounds about right.

God Bless

Hello cathay. nice to meet you. Its good to hear of another Christian woman doing Gods work.Amen. I pray your well, and you don't bore me.lol. I love to hear testemonies of how God is moving in peoples lives, and how people travellers are being saved and going on for God. All the time i pray and ask for God to save and Bless the traveller people, for him to let them know they can be children of God. We are all proud of who we are and what people we come from (most of the time, lol.) But how much more Blessed are we when we can call ourselves sons and daughters of the living God. I would love for our people to be known as Christians, i mean like when you see things in the paper or on the news or telly about us. "People would still treat us like divvies i bet though".

I'll have a look for your web site, and i'll say hello if i find it.
