ok valerie
I try to help you.
I must ask to questions step by step so have patients.
Ok, you did not tell me if it is a laptop or desk top, so I will guess it is a desk top.
When the computer is running,if you push the eject button on the CD drive does the carriage that holds the CD pop out like its suppose to?
If it does that means the CD has power, so that part is ok.
If not then the CD has no power so the power cable is loose, you take off the case and you see on the back of the CD, the power cable connector it is white plastic so you gently push and wiggle it in so to make good connection. Now see if it has power by pushing eject button.
If no power then follow the wires back and check for good connection along the way.

Now, if you had power ok to begin with then the ribbon cable might be loose on the CD, so you push/wiggle for good connection. Ribbon cables have many wires in a flat row with a black connector on the end. If it still dont work follow ribbon cable back checking for loose connection.

Now if it still dont work then its one of 2 things, maybe a break in the cable you cant even see, or the CD drive is toast.

If the CD drive is toast it cant be fixed and you can get a super good brand new one for cheap.

Now if you got a laptop you have take it to the shop.

Now read this and remember cuz its important, you always have one hand on the case when you touch anything inside the computer, this way you are grounded so static electricity from your body cannot destroy the computer.

Ok so I hope this helps, you talk more to me if you need to.

Alas the poor technician.

The computer shop charges you a King's ransom to fix your PC, and the technician that does the fixing gets paid with peanuts.

Hi kilby
When you write something long, before you hit submit you copy it. Then if you get "cannot display page" you can paste your writing in a new reply.

Use ctrl-a to select all, then ctrl-c to copy, then ctrl-v to paste in new reply.

Hi kilby
Today's home computers can do many wonderful things.

You should get someone to help you download and install the FireFox browser, then you can make small words bigger so you can read them easier. And it is free.
You can download FireFox here.

ok Valerie

But make sure they check the cable.
Sometimes they forget to check the cable and replace the CD drive when it was just a bad cable.
