Hello everyone.:D
I'm Malene, and I'm from the little country called Denmark.
I'm just 16 years, so you have to know that I dont understand english so well.
I'm a gypsy, and when I've finished my idication, I want to travel around in the world. :)
My classmates think I'm wierd - but everybody can't be perfeck :P
My great, great, great, great grandma (I think) was a gypsy, too.
I love music, flowers, skirts, and things I don't know the english words for :hehe:

| Hello Malene I am new too. My mum and Dad went touring round your country and Sweden before I was born. My dad had a Swedish surname. Me and my sister want to trace our roots to see if we have gypsy blood somewhere along the line |

| Hello Malene, I cannot understand you say that you are Gypsy and yet you say that your great great great mother was also Gypsy! could you be more explicit as for traveling around the world, I sujest that you finish your studies first, you have all the time in the world to travel, as a matter of fact we the Gypsies, to travel is in our blood as well as music! your new found friend Victor. |

Well.. Victor, My ggg mother was a gypsy, my mum told me so - and she said also that I was totally like a gypsy. And my friends think that I'm like a gypsy, too. And then I think I'm a gypsy. I don't think that gypsies have to be in the blood (Well, I have gypsyblood, too) but I think that if someone is like a gypsy, and feels like one, the person is a gypsy.
So I think I'm a gypsy, and I really wanna life like one :) |

With respect...
What you are is a misguided and confused young person and all I can do is feel sorry for you as you have little or no understanding as to what a Gypsy, a Romani Person, is. You cannot become a Gypsy because you feel like one (how does a Gypsy feel), or look like one (how does a Gypsy look). You have to be born one of the People. You have read, it would seem, too much in books a romantic image of the Gypsy portrayed as the "wild savage" kind of. That is not what or who a Gypsy is.
You said "I don't think that gypsies have to be in the blood"... that is where you are entirely wrong, as we are a People and a Race. You cannot join the Gypsy People like you join a club. You say you have Gypsy blood - from your great-great-grandmother... does you Mum, who told you so, have a better understanding as to Romani Bloodline, as do you, or is it also just something she said.
This is not my site so I will not say to you what I would on my networks - and I would say that to any wannabe pretender who comes our way there - and I shall leave it at that. Only, let me say again that you have the wrong idea and you cannot become a Gypsy. We, the Romani-Gypsy People, are NOT a club or a society that you can join just because you like this style of dress or a certain way of life.
I would like to give you a little advice... grow up.

| My dear Malene I think that Vashengro, is being to harsh as far as you are concerned, you know my dear Malene sometimes mirecles happen, I know, a woman her ggg grand mother had a love affair with a negro she got pregnant from him but her child was white, after two to three generation in her family, a woman married a white man when she had a child, the child loked like a mistiso!well you see I am not a doctor, but I know that it has something to do with our genealogy, if you have such a big love for Gypsies, don't let anybody talk you out of it, who knows maybe this Gypsy geneology, you have inhereted, but as an old Gypsy, I understand if you have a drop of Gypsy blood, for me you are a Gypsy, and wellcome to the Lovara clan, I dont understand Vashengro or Mary they sound to me like they are dicriminating, you , well we Gypsies cannot discriminate any one because we are all discriminated till this day, and they know it! so I advice them not to make our race more supirior, then any other race! I am for democracy any one who wants to live a life of a Gypsy, who are we to say no, not me for that matter.Victor. |

Anyone who likes gypsies, who "looks" gypsy can be a gypsy if they want to? HELP....
Being gypsy is not a lifestyle,it is not something you can become by wanting to be one...

| this sounds cushty malene, you can now want to be a different race just by wanting to be. I'd like to be like the darker ones of the gypsy but i was born with lighter coloured parents. How you must have the answer to this, how do I change, How do I get darker when its not in my genes.I'd love it. and so would loads of the other girls who are spendinga small fortune on sunbeds. And my hair thats red, how do i get that to be darker with-out me pretending its black or dark brow. I'd love to know the secrets. And it seems may be Victor also knows of this secret. I always thought that my race and how i look came from my genetic make-up, my dad and mam and that. |

You are what you are.
This sites for all kinds of people so why would you need to want to try to be like another breed of people. For some-one to be pretending to be what they are not is just fool-hardy. And such a person is just making themselves out to be divvi. Veshengro and I have had to live and be romani/ gypsy or what ever traveller ( race) people we came from. We are the ones who have suffered the discrimination for thousands of years. so why do you not think we would defend our culture and race as a true culture of people. You cannot how ever much you want to become a different race of person. If i move to a hut in the middle of Brazil, and dress in authentic costume of the Aztec people, and I stay there for fifty years, will that make a me an authentic Aztec? I think it will not. How-ever long I live and whatever culture or race I mimic I will still always be a English Romani gypsy traveller. and so I should be.

| My dear Valerierackly, you better learn your geography Better, the Aztecs, are from Mexico not from Brazil,and first of all how can you stop anyone to do what she or he want's to do! the youngster in this story, loves to be a Gypsy, there is nothing you or I can do about it, and to critizes is not polite what she want's to do, saying that she is confused is not, right, you may further harm her, well about our precious culture, in some cases stops our progress, in this world of ours, I said it once and I will say it once again, what has our culture gave us, nothing but to be years behind of this wonderfull world of ours, startimg that most of us hardly know how to read or write, and if some do, they don't go up more then the third grade,specialy the young girls,our custums do not allow that,and other many more bad custums that I don't even want to mention, I include my clan the Lovara also! some of my clan are die hards, and will not change for the better, I only pray that those Gypsies who are today in Romania Kosovo Italy etc, who are suffering in the Ghettos, because they had to leave their homes because they were or are Discriminated, beaten and even killed sometimes, and the worlds media those not devulgate it Why,well I will tell you why, it is of our ignorence, I am sick and tierd to write to the human rights organization, about the situation in E.U. of my people, but they just promise! Anayway ley us let Malene dream of what she want's to be, this is a cruel world for us. Victor |

Listen up people.
At first: You guys don't know me at all.
It's okay, that you just think I'm a confused, little teenage-girl. But I know can tell you, that I'm not.
I know what I'm doing, and if you did'nt knew that when you were 16, it don't mean that I dont know
I know of cause that gypsy ain't a club, but still I have gypsyblood. I am not just "trying to be different", I really feels for this, and no one cant chance that.
Not even a gypsy. Victor, Im so lucky to have you around here. :)
And well, I have it in my blood, and I'm gonna life like i wanna do.

First of all you know nothing of respect either it would seem. You do NOT address people older than yourself, and many of them mush older than yourself, at least not in Gypsy Society, the way you do here. You may be able to do so in Danish Gadje society but not amongst Rom. Secondly, you think you can live the life. Firstly, you claim to be of Gypsy Blood. Then first of all learn to behave like that. But then... who cares.. just another wannabe.
As to Victor...
Not everyone has fallen for your stories, Sir. Lovara born in Shanghai and then lived in Persia. Oh well, I may not doubt the being born in Shanghai and the having lived in Persia - all I doubt is the Lovara bit. Russian Lovara it was, was it not.
Maybe you would like to inform us of which Lovara tribe you are?
I have never wanted to be as rude, as some might consider me, to ask those questions here but because the majority of the Romani in Britain are a little naive when it comes to aspects of Rom from other countries I felt obliged now to ask this. I do not care whether you are trying to con the Gadje world, but I do not like it when it is done to the People.

| My dear Chiriya, for your information I am a pure Gypsy, from my fathers side and also from my mothers side.was born in China and my clan is Lovara from Russia, and I live in Brazil, quite a cobination, isinit, and as I see it I could be your grand father, I have seen almost all the clans around the world, and I also was once upon a time, thinking a lot of our Culture, custums, and the way of living, not as a whole , but most of us, we have changed in time like, any country changes, but we don't want to admiit it!we seem to proud to do it,you know perfictly well that our custums our laws are out dated why not be more modern more flexible more actuall etc, etc, I am sure that your children one day will thank you for being more free from some of our drastic laws and custums, as for our culture, yes we have a few like music ,and today we have writers even intelectuals, in these people I believe that they are fighting for our people, to be free from discrimination, and I am also doing my part for our people who suffer, and I will fight as long as I live to see my people free, If more and more people like Melene would love to be a Gypsy this would be a Victory for us, can't you realize that, Victor |

Old eneough to be my grandfather? i doubt this very much, since my puridai is 101 years old,lol.
My children have no problems with our old costums, they are proud of them.
I was born and raised in the culture,i have a big familija in several different countries, including america, germany and england, not one of them ever heard of you.
Funny that you have seen almost all clans around the world, how many are there?LOL....
I am not a young girl, neither am i someone who just discovered my roots, therefor i would apreciate you not trying to con me.
You may get away with this on some people, i am not one of them.... |

Year, I know, but it feels like that. I just wanted some to talk with, but now you just think Im dummy.
Like "Im a little teenage girl, who wanna be a gypsy" - But my great great grandmother was a gypsy, so Im a kind of.
It was my gg grand mother, not my ggg grand mother :p
But a gypsy or not - I wanna travel around in the world, most europe, when im grown up :)
