Hi, Has anyone heard of the Hunter family my Mother is called Isabella and she was born in Leeds her Father was called Harry Hunter and her Mother was called Esther Ann Banks. I had a Uncle called Colin Waite Hunter and he died in a caravan fire at a place called Brickfield at the back Of Winker Green off Theaker Lane in Leeds in 1925 after that all the family stopped travelling and lived at 11 Winker Green. My Grandfather and Grandmother were both Hawkers and used to sell linoluem. When they settled in Leeds they used to sell on Leeds Market. My Uncles and Aunts were called, starting with the eldest Helen Hunter she married James Cunningham from Hull in 1946, Harry Hunter he never married as far as I know, Thomas Hunter he married Ellen Crowther in 1938 there are some more but they are still living. On Harry Hunter's and Esther Ann Banks marriage certificate it says he was a widower, but I haven't a clue who he was married to before also I can't find out where he was born, my Mother thinks it was Bradford that's where he is buried at Bowling cemetry with my Uncle who died in the caravan fire. I know they used to go to Brickfield in Leeds as they were good friends of the Buxton family. Thank you

hi, I'm 60 years old now, but I remember when I was about 13 and the rag and bone man was coming down our street and my Mother said take these rags out and get a couple of decent mugs off him, so I went out and came back with just one mug my Mother dashed out after him, and started shouting and when the rag and bone man turned round he said hey up then Bella I didn't know you lived round here it turned out to be Issac Lowther my Mother said they used to go to school together.

Hi Everyone, I started off doing my Family Tree and I've become side tracked by Harry Hunter. I used to live in Leeds for about 30 years and when I was 16 an old lad I was working with he 67 came upto me and said I've just found out your Esther Ann Hunter's Grandson, I that's me He said I used to live opposite your Grandma in Manchester, I said she's never been to Manchester, he said she was born there they call her Esther Ann Banks and they called her Father Thomas and her Mother Minnie Banks he said they were Gypsies, so when I got home, I went round to my Grandma's, I said this man where I work said your maiden name is Banks and you were born in Manchester she said did he say anything else, I said all your family are Gypsies, so my Grandma said what's his name I said Harold Taylor she said tell him he's a silly old fool, he doesn't know what he's talking about. Next day at work I said to him my Grandma said your a silly old fool and you don't know what your talking about, he said take it from lad they are Gypsies I know about these things. When got into this Family Tree thing I started punching some names into ancestry about 3 years ago so I'd rememberd what the old lad had told me about my Grandma and put in Esther Ann Banks and it came up so I joined ancestry and found that my Grandma was called Esther Ann Banks her Father was called Thomas but her Mother was called Ellen McHugh but my Great Aunt Bella was there and my Grandma was born in Manchester just like the old lad said. I got my Grandma's death certificate she died in 1986 aged 94 it was registered by my Aunty, it said her maiden name was Banks that she was born in Manchester. Then I got her birth certificate and it said her Father was a Hawker and it was registered by her Mother it was signed with a X the mark of Ellen Banks. Then I got Thomas Banks marriage certificate which say's he is a Dyer, his Father is called Thomas and is a Traveller and Ellen Mchugh's Father was called Thomas and he was a Shoemaker.

Hi setaside, If I don't post it's because I've forgotten my password. Used to be top of the class for spelling but forgotten that now, type a word in and it doesn't look right but can't be bothered to go get the dictionary.

Hi Setaside, well is one small world eh, we,d be on road from job to job bout same time an great times they were , i woudnt a missed a day of it. Was it Kilburn where Buddy Shukru had the Crown. They always said as he had the head o Nelson that came offa the colum that they blew up in Dublin that time. We was in islinton one time as well an workin for crew call St Mary,s but the money wasn,t the best an we moved on. I had forgot about 715 ha ha that sure put a stop to our gallop eh. I always workt under name of James Beck that i took off of a gravestone in a cematary as we pulled into cambridge. Thing was though we was work there for cable crew callt d&h an when they paid us we could only change our checks at shop just round corner from yard an we had to buy our grub for weeks shacklin an it was top whack for evrythin. It stunk of days long go when navvies was paid in the bosses own coin an the same bosses owned the ony shops that woud take there money. Anyways , they was still great days an when they brought the certificates out it sure made it harder. We didnt exist on paper, i suppose we were the original illegal imigrants eh. all the best for now chong gav ------kilby------

Hi kilby, Your right without the internet I wouldn't have found out the truth, because I wouldn't have started to do my family tree. The sites I use are Ancestry.co.uk, Genesreunited.co.uk and Findmypast, there the ones I pay for. My Father died of alhziemers he smoked like a chimney, drank like a fish, weighed 18 stone and died at 78 fell down the stairs pissed and broke his hip that and the alhziemers finished him off.
