Hi, I'm not a gypsy and don't have romany blood in my family as far as I know, but need your help. I recently had a scare - found a blood clot on my brain - and now I'm better I am thinking there must be more to life than mortgages and bills so took the decision to find out what is really important in my life and ditch the house and take at least a couple of years out. Have bought a roma caravan (mainly because I fell in love with it) but can't find anywhere to settle for at least 6 months at a time - I guess it makes people like me realise what some of you guys go through. I'm in Nottinghamshire / Derbyshire and have to keep my job so can't go much further afield, but does anyone know anywhere I could go? There is me, the other half and our dog. We have been let down by so many people so many times in trying to sort this out, it seems like the world is full of unnecessary prejudice - I mean some sites won't even take my caravan because of what it is.... Thanks in advance. |

| Hello Chester, If I was you I would go round and ask in all the farms, explain what you want to do, maybe offer to do a bit work for them, or how about in the woods? Hope you find somewhere, Lyz |

hi Lyz - thanks for the kind reply - it was strange just after I had posted this cry for help on this forum I had a phone call from someone willing to take a chance on us so (at least for now) I think we are sorted... provided this one doesn't let us down. Again thank you for going to the trouble to respond and I will definitely take your advice should this one fall through. Regards, Jane :D |

This is the caravan - however looks like the place we were going is not going to be any good - not without a plumber anyway ;-) We can stay but no showers and as you know Roma's are dry vans...don't want to ruin it. Thought about having a shed out back but don't know where to start - buying a cheap shed, water heater, elec shower, waste water stuff...etc etc All ideas welcome again!! |

| Oh its lovely, maybe you will have to wash in a stream!! Its a shame you don't live in my area cos you'd be very welcome to use one of the fields, oh, and the bathroom!! Lyz |

A stream in summer gladly but a 4am on a winter's morning...brrrr :) I don't know where you are based but I'm guessing it is too far to commute...looking at maybe buying some land with a stream (just in case) and pitching on this but not sure about planning permission and things we'd have to get around. You never know one day maybe I'll have my dream and get out of this brick jungle!! Take care and thanks for all your help. Jane |

Just realised (by reading other threads) that you are in Surrey - yes too far to commute LOL - but also that you have a Roti x Mastiff pup - see pic of our boy (Hooch) - Dog de Bordeaux x Roti - the most wonderful dog on the planet!! |

| Hooch is lovely, how old is he? I will try and put a pic of Woody on later. He's 15 weeks old and weighs just over 3 stone already, he landed on my teeth yesterday and knocked out my bridge, cut gum and swollen!! Dentist Monday!!! I'm not 100% sure but I think if you buy woods and the caravan is movable you don't need planning permission, might be an idea to start another post about that, someone may know. You can make a stream or get a tin bath and get hubby to make a fire to keep you warm, very romantic! Catch you later on, Lyz I just tried to put pic on it won't let me, email lyzfromuk@hotmail.co.uk and I can send you a pic. |
