Hi there Derby, sounds like your gunna take the plunge, well now, if your lookin for a sulky/ trainin/exersise cart then go to www.dragondriving.co.uk an they have one tto suit a pony from 13h to 15.2h an thats goin for £125. Thats just for ya to look at, theres loads about an any o the lads who have gig,s an carts an stuff should tellya the best deals in where you live. The same crew have a 4 year ol ride an drive mare for £3,500 an again thats jus an example.
Theres a book out called "bomproof your horse" by Rick Pelicano an if you gunna take any horse an gig out on road then ya better make sure that its well bomprooft coz wi the roads as busy as they are now , well ya jus gotta be sure.
As for what breed ,now, i was thinkin bout gettin me own there a while back an i was leanin to a "dales" or a "fell"pony but thats just a matter o choice. The pony i was lookin at was a "whole" color but a lot o shkins likes the colored horses. I have mates who have both an agen its a matter o doin a lot o lookin an just a bit o buyin, but make sure ya look hard an long coz when ya buy then it should be wi a mind to keepin it a long while an they take some lookin after. Anyways i,m sure you,ve give all that a lot o thought an i hope this has been o some little use to ya. all the best -----kilby----- |

| Hi Derby, hows it goin, i hope i didnt put ya offa the horse thing wi the prices offa them adverts, i was talkin to me brother in law beyond an he has 12 horses an 5 foals an he was sayin as how ya would maybe be better buyin a foal ( lot, lot less money ) an that way ya would grow an learn together, as long as ya have some body who knows bout horses an the way of em then maybe that could be the way. Chizzy, (friend o mine ) has three horses an thats how he likes to do things, bring em on an get to know each other on the way. Anyways, if i can help in any way just ask an i,ll do all i can. all the best-----kilby------ |

Hi Bertram, an how are you this fine soft day, well i hope. Now, as to your question ,gentlin or break later, i,ve jus been on phone to frient o mine who,s had horses all his life an ive found out what i can for ya. This is his opinion an i value it, if i had bought meself a foal as i was gunna do few years back then this was the man i would have listened to an learnt off. He just told me that he would "gentle" the foal an he,d start its steady trainin at bout 18 months, he said he,d use a mouthin bit, an this has three keys set in the middle of it an the horse plays wi these wi his tunge tongue an that makes him slavver an run the dribble outa the sides o hiss mouth an that lubricates his lips an mouth to help ease the soreness while hes gettin use to the bit. He says ya do this for bout a month to get ya horse use to it an all that time ya be round that horse an makes it like ya an rely on ya an be glad to see ya an know that its you who,s gunna feed him an do for him. Dont try an get no work outa him at this age coz he,s still ony a baby an his bones aint set up proper yet but this mouthin will stand for ya for later on. If ya let him get too old before ya mouth him then he gets headstrong an he is strong, much stronger than you an so you have to make him do as he dont want an he be down on ya an thats not good.
Hope ive put this so ya understands an i,m ony passin on what god friend o mine has taken the time to tell me ,an i,m doin same for you, all the best an if i can help find out more for ya i will do the way Jimmy told me this ,it seems to make a lot o sense, all the best-------kilby------- |
