Gypsy Roma and Traveller History Month 2009
Making June a month to remember
Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities across Britain will be celebrating their second Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History month in June 2009 following the successful event of last year.
From Kent to Cumbria, Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities will be working in partnership with schools, councils and other public bodies to creatively challenge the many myths and stereotypes that blight Gypsy, Roma and Traveller lives.
Launched at short notice in April 2008, last year’s event was supported by thousands of people after funding was granted by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. Last Autumn, a partnership between the National Association of Teachers of Travellers, the Gypsy Media Company Ltd, The Irish Travellers Movement, the Surrey Traveller Community Relations Forum and a newly formed arts organisation called Nomad Nation came together to ensure Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month would be repeated and grow. They have recently heard that the Department of Children Schools and Families has granted a doubled level of funding for 2009 and 2010.
The money will be spent in four key areas:
Promoting the month through a website, magazine and the media
Creating educational materials and events in schools
Increasing Gypsy, Roma and Traveller participation
Staging national music and arts events
To promote events in, or receive copies of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month magazine to be published in June, call the Gypsy Media Company Ltd on 07966 786242 or email jake@grthm.co.uk

| I've been trying to find out as well Rawny. All I can find is that after last year, permission had to be sought from the council, but no permission has been sort or granted. This may mean that it is assumed it wont be on because permission was not granted, but wether that is the reality I dont know. I will keep looking for info though. A news paper report about it on the 3rd of April said it will go on without the planning permission.. but who knows! |

dont be daft Cath, of course Horses can talk. I've heard them at Wickham fair before. One of them started to boast about his track record.
"In the last 15 races, I've won 8 of them!" Another horse breaks in, "Well in the last 27 races, I've won 19!!"
"Oh that's good, but in the last 36 races, I've one 28!", says another, flicking his tail. At this point, they notice that a greyhound dog has been sitting there listening.
"I don't mean to boast," says the greyhound, "but in MY last 90 races, I've won 88 of them!"
The horses are clearly amazed. "Wow!" says one, after a hushed silence. "A talking dog."
Joking apart, many mushes do talk to the horses and the horses understand. I know we have fairs through out the year, but a special display for rthm might be a good thing to visit. does anyone know of any such event? |
