| mr. Byjim, I have told this a million or more times that we no diffrent from anyone, who made us Gypsies the bad guys, generations ago who took us into slavery, and nearly starved, us to death,they did with us what they wanted, then when we saw that this life was unbearable, that is were we became Gypsies we started slowly but surely making bad things to survive and also revenge that is some times is sweet as honey they also thought us how to steal and get away with it, all what they did to us we tried to do it to them, that is why till today they have a certain hate in their hearts for Gypsies, and other etnic people, but one thing is for sure we they Gypsies are the discriminated race on earth, that what i think makes a Gypsy |

The Late Great Bartley Gorman in his autobiography 'KING OF THE GYPSIES' (a Great and Classic book ) says a gypsy is someone who adopts the gypsy life style!
I believe this, and also it obviously involves integrity and respect for the legacy of gypsy ancestry.
Gypsy is as Gypsy does!

| You know Ivan, it is a habit to most clans, to call them selves kings, queen, princeses or prince now this Gorman if he wrote a classic book about Gypsies then I think he is entiteld to be called a king,what I want to say that we never had a king or a queen and never will, what makes me laugh that here in Brasil we have at least 3 prineces and some claim their ancesters were kings of all Gypsies, some times in Europe, once in my youth I remember, that in China in any cinema before the cinema started they used to show the photos of kings and queens which actually ecxisted, so every one stood up for respect, but the last kings photo was always a Gypsy, dressed as a begger with an iron crown on his head, just to make the people laugh, that is why some Gypsies in the USA actually say that they are decendent from their Royal family, now how do you like that. |

Do you know I think that in ancient times Kings and Queens were made by their 'tribes' 'clans' before nations arose.

Again right words you have posted. Yes, I too, believe that there is no king among the gipsy folk. It mus be just a habit to call some one as the King. If there colud occur some kind of his Royal Haigness, there naturally should to be the order of his Haigness, too.
But take a look over them, you cannot find anything like ' the kings's order nor subject of the king either.
As you said; it just a habit to caal someone as king of the gipsien, someone who have more capitalla than his fellow- brother.

| My dear friend Roga, if you are a Rom like I am you should know by now that any thing extra ordinary a Rom or Gypsy, does in his clan they call him the king of that or the other, like the Gypsy kings guitars players, yes they were good but not for long, a king does not fade away or a queen for that matter, this nick name is false like a 3 dollar bill, and always was, you or I or anybody else can call ourselfs kings or queens, but there is one man or a woman, I would call a king or a queen, who will take this curse of discrimination off our shoulders, find a way to live peacefully with the Gadje, try and take the hate of these people who hate us for generation from their hearts, and we we will do the same, I hear that racismo is on the rise, from my activits freinds all over E.U. and alse where, so I sujest to my people keep calm and do not panic, I believe that if we show kindness, honesty, and all the good things that God has given us, I am almost sure in the end of the day we will have our freedom, from those who are looking for a pure race, which never existed simply because we all came from the same source, Black white yellow red, tec, etc. your friend Victor |

Thanks Victor of your wise and remarkable words, I cannot but wonder your brain still working so clear like a razor cutting the matter and showing them in right context - as they should to be seen -and, at last - should to be understand, without any useless romantic.
As the main theme was of the discussion "What do you think makes a gypsy like a gypsy", I would like ask a question. What is a gipsy, Roman, What is the code which makes an individual join to this, so call gipsy folk? What about a individual without a clan,but gipsy orig by parent, who has been grow himself by himself in totally different environment.

For me a romani/Gypsy, is just like anybody else, the thing is that we have been, slvaves to white people for a long time and are sitll ignorent Gypsies, they were not given education , purposely to keep them slave forever and work free for them , and being treated like animals till today in some European countries, the only big diffrence is the way of our living and costums, we had to steal to cheat to survive, but if they would have giving us a decent living, sending our children to school, by this time we would have been a diffrent story, no one would discriminate us, logicaly we would live like any normal cityzenthe country they live in, the have planted the seed of misery for us, now let them suffer from our bad apples, butt I still believe in the HUman Rights I know that one day good sense will prevail

| to me the thing that makes a gypsy a gypsy is that they should have the heart of a gypsy they should adopt the customs. for me i have very little gypsy blood in me, but the more i learn about them the more i find that i'am just like them, i have the heart of a gypsy, and to me thats what is important. |

| I think that as its a man made name and as such is only a name placed on a "certain type of people" by the indigenouse people of that period in time" the idea that people get is false ,what I mean by that is the original people that left their home land are now so integrated and mixed with so many other races that its only your ancestral blood line that can determine if you were from the immagrants who arrived from as some say India or the other Countries that have been suggestted . |

| now can you tell me were the english people came from, the answer is easy, they were imigrants too, from all other countries of Europe, so you cannot tell from which one, it was ocupaied by the Roman Italians and also the Vikings also fought there for land, and many others, so we the Gypsies are no diffrent from the others it just that our old custums was not exepted mostly by all the Eurropean countries, due to our ignorence, that is were they took us for slaves, and we suffer till today for it , I just cannot understand that most of our Gypsies are now diffrent, but very little are left ignorent in this world of ours, give the ignorent a chance to intrigate in the worlds family and then you will see that not all are bad apples, and those who are should be tamed to live and let live! |

Gypsies are an ethnic minority. They are easily identified cause they
are not Caucasian like most Europeans. They look like Indians cause they
come from near there. They are darker. Gypsies are a minority in
countries like Romania, Hungary, Poland, Russia, Bulgaria etc. Most
gypsies are Christians.
The word gypsy is not offensive. It's just calling me Romanian or a
German person German. It's who they are; if it became offensive it;s
because of their fault. They are a major problem here in Romania and
frankly we want them all out! |
