Just wondered what folks think of this site ,after the recent discussion regarding the way Gypsies are portrayed by the media and the general concensus that most people tar Gypsies with the same brush ,this site in a way suggests that the Gorgas are in general viewed in a similar way by most Gypsies and Travellers ? Or is this just another spoof site like the neediegenes site on Aprils fools day? Im not sure as not quite sure what way to take it maybe others will see it differently ,not sure if this type of site actually helps the Issues involved as the old adage 2 wrongs dont make a right comes to mind? and the remarks about the Irish travellers not being liked or accepted by the English travellers and that they are to blame for most of the bad press regarding illegal sites and rubbish is in one way racist in itself ? just as in the same way that the Gorga blame all Gypsies instead of those that are actually responsible? As Mod I do not get Involved in discussions as such but thought this site warranted a discussion in view of the latest posts concerning media coverage, it would seem the problem that exists between Gorga and Traveller also exist with-in the Gypsy community between Irish and Romany Gypsies I would be interested to see others oppinions in this matter ?. And if sites like the above help or just perpetuate the situation? |

| well i aint had a chance to read though it proper yet has me head couldnt take all that reading to day has i got a hang over from me party last night but i dont like what who ever started the site called it has i dont like the word pikey although i know a lot of gypsies do call their self that in what they think is a fun way like a black man will call his self a niger to other black men, but still i dont like it and wouldnt call meself it cus i hate the word,i will have a read when i get a chance and let ya know what i think of the sites contents, |

| I've had a little look and it seems a positive site that is pro Gypsy(Only read a little so far). As for the name, its one of them, its like Rosie loves the word needie, others dont, and pikey, well some lads do call themselves it. I was talking to cathayb about this last week and we both each knew at least one Romany lad who called himself pikey. Most of the time, when used by gorgers it is in a disgusting derogatory way, and the distinctions in usage make it very clear as to how its meant. |

| i just had enough read on the pikey boy site and i got to say though he do make some good points i dont like the way his going about it he comes across as angry and that's not good plus some bits is just a load of bull s*** and a bit leary so dont like the site, could be the person who done the sites way of having a laugh though either way dont like it and be the last time i look at it' |

Looks like you had a good time!! and the weather was good for you :)
I agree the Pikey site in my view will not do much good for the Gypsy Community as a whole and, in my view is not a good role model for any youngster looking at it? |

| i think it makes some good social comment. I think if a non Gypsy reader is intelligent or discerning enough to really analise it, they would come away with a better understanding of how life can be for a Traveller of any type. I haven't read it all yet. If there is any anti Pavee content then i wouldn't condone that, but it would not be a lie to say that many English can look down at the Irish. In my opinion that is very silly because in many cases the only real difference is the accent. |

I live in a mixed English/ Irish situation and I would be sick as a pig if our Irish neighbours moved away. I think a Pavee should be proud to call himself that, and a Romnichal should be proud as well . we are of different origins just as the English and the Celts are. Irish Traveller historians recognise this and it isn't a problem. We can celebrate two very close but ultimately different cultures without putting each other down. We all get enough of that anyway.
Quite right to say that there has been an awful lot of intermarriage. I'm very proud of the fact that my granny was a shelta speaking Traveller, who althoughh born in Wales was of Irish Trveller stock. |

| I think that most Gypsies/Romany will undrestand the sentiment behind it ,but to a wider audience I think it will convey the wrong image? So In a way i think its not a good advert for the Romany as a whole. And I dont like the word P or G or N . |

| I just looked at the pikeyboy site and i found it interesting, i dont think it comes across as negative or agressive , and if you read the bit he puts in about how he looked up the word pikey and how its used by gorgas as derogatory , but he is sort of making a point that no matter what hes called hes proud of being what he is , alot of you might disagree but i thought he put hiself across very well |

hi ya all.if i knew how to post a photo i would of my last attempt at partying!!!!!my leg as many of you know has been broken in 12 places with bones coming out the skin.ugh!!!!!!not going to be walking for ages but sometimes when not in hospital i can get to a computer though very painful!!!

| Hello Jenster and welcome to the board , yes its strange as the few that have replied to the posts seem to think its ok to use the "Pikey" word as long as its a Gypsy saying or using it ,but I have had several emails from other members who havent posted but have expressed their dissapointment at this word being used by a Romany and have said that they find it it bad taste and find it hard to believe a true Romany would use that word in any form ? |
