Hi Valery, nice to meet you.

It's good that you're looking into your family tree as it will enhance your appreciation of not only your living and close family but also those who have sadly long gone.

I am looking forward to learning more about my own Irish Traveller traditions via this and other outlets, in fact, I only recently set up a forum in the hope it would enable me to get more information, as well. Unfortunately here in Ireland Travellers are unfairly treated by "regular" society because many of them believe we are all trouble makers. Granted some in our Community do cause trouble but isn't this the same in any community or society!

Yes, the Traveller's Talk website/forum was only just set up and I am hoping to attract Travellers and Gypsies from all over the UK and Ireland to come and visit and participate and help us grow.

you know till this last few years i only just started to think about who we was or where we was from. when my grandad (on my dads side) got bad about two year ago,i realised i didnt know that much about his people, and i noticed i didnt know nowt about my mams people either. so I have been asking a lot of people a lot of things since. Peoples faces change a bit now when they see me.lol. I'm going to make sure i get some old photos of my grannys family next week. I keep putting it off. my granny and here people i see all the time but i noticed there was only a few of them. theres a link on the gypsy jib web-site that has the war records of people who died. and would your know it theres about thirty of them died in WWII, so i can understand how the varey name is rare. my grandad s name was Taylor so when i look through them its like searching for a needle in a haystack.
But usually once i find out one of them ,they have a load of others with them so things seem to move quickly for a while. I'd like to find out about my grandads family that was from ireland though. i dont know how to do it. becase he's gone and my granny doesn't know. they was prices, i was telled my g-granny was from belfast and her dad and family was from there as well. the camp they stopped on must have been there a while because he knew the name of the roads and that where they was from.

May the peace of the LORD be with you always. God Bless

Welcome to the site and i hope you get plenty of conversation!

My great grandfather came from Dublic in 1895 so there is a wee bit of the Irish in me! LOL!

Hello Valerie,
I have similiar problems with geting records of Dublin - mainly coz of the fire there - so if you get any info for there or Ireland in general, please let me know, thanks.

Hi Kilby, good to meet you.

I do know Ballina in Co Mayo. In fact, I was there not too long ago, a nice part of the country where we have some good friends.

Good to hear you have travelled much of Ireland but hopefully you will one day get to Tipperary:)

Hi Shahnee, nice to know you. Yes, the Irish seem to be everywhere and in almost everybody:D

Interestingly, a lot of my own relations are all over Ireland and the UK. For example I have an uncle Pat in Wales, all of his kids - now grown up with their own family - were born there. It's the same with other relations in places like London and Oxford.
