First off, I hope all you folk are doing well, and I hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions. Being not a Roma myself, but one of the Gorgio/Gorgies/Gadje/etc., I'm often confronted with heavily anti-Romani media, which can prove both confusing and biased. When I learn about something, it seems there's always something to counter it that's negative. So, I'd like to hear a Roma's perspective on a few things, so I don't get my facts mixed up and accidentally end up with a biased view on something because of the media. Please, feel free to ignore this topic by all means if I offend any of you.

First off, I'd like to ask about the whole "squatting" business that I hear with the Roma. I understand some of you still travel around, and that you buy land for yourselves to build on, but why does it seem everyone cries, "Squatter!" and points their finger in the direction of the nearest Roma? I can understand if someone, Romani or not, violates land laws in their country from time to time, but why are the Roma often criticized?

Second, I have heard many stories about the stereotyped "thieving cheater" image the Roma have. Personally, with so many people going around and calling themselves "Gypsies" and then doing unthinkable things, I wouldn't be surprised if the Roma got all caught up in a mess because of what a non-Roma calling themselves a "Gypsy" did. Especially with the severe racial issues the Roma suffer, is it true most of these folk labeled as thieves are either people branding themselves with a "Gypsy" name, and/or Romani folk who can't find any other way to survive because they've been denied a job over and over again? Or is it true that crime is a real problem amongst the Roma?

Once again, I apologize if I have offended anyone. I've come across too many contradicting statements lately about Roma and Romani social issues, so I've decided to come and hear what the people have to say.

Well Clair not sure if you will get many answers as if any one should answer its more than likely to be taken the wrong . In short some travellers/gypsies do behave in this way as do all people of every race but not all , but the press will always report the incidents because of the topical Issues involved.
